“I feel the need… the need for speed.” – Top Gun (1986)

But in leadership, speed can kill.

Ever seen a team sprint toward the wrong target?

Working hard? Yes.
Momentum? No.
It’s misalignment on overdrive.

Leadership teaches us that we need to pay attention to aligning tempo and terrain.

Fast isn’t the game; it’s the intention.
Surging when the window’s open and pausing when clarity is more important than motion.

In SWAT, we called it slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. Leaders don’t chase velocity, they conduct it.

Because speed without strategy is reckless.
