Uniform Appearance

Your appearance and your uniform will be the first thing that the public will notice about you.  Your appearance is your first opportunity to show your professionalism.  Officer presence is the first category on the Use of Force continuum, thus showing the importance of making sure your uniform is in order.  Your uniform should be clean and pressed.  Your boots should be clean, free of any mud/dirt, with the toe shined.

Class A Uniforms are reserved for special occasions.  The uniform shirt has long sleeves and must be worn with a clip-on tie that is provided.  Brass will also be provided.  A.P. goes on the right collar and S.O. goes on the left collar.  The APSO Badge goes on the left chest of the shirt, above the pocket.  Your name plate goes on the right chest of the shirt, above the pocket.  Any and all ribbons issued will be placed above the name plate.  The sleeves of the shirt along with the legs of the pants must be creased.  Your boots must also be cleaned with a polished toe.  A Garrison Hat will also be issued and is accompanied with this uniform.  Only wear this uniform when instructed to do so.  Refer to policy manual for further detailed instructions.

The Class B Uniform, which is your everyday uniform, will have APSO embroidered on the color along with an APSO Sheriff’s Star embroidered on the left chest of the shirt.  A Velcro name plate will be issued to you that will be worn on the right chest of the shirt.  Any rank that is earned will be worn on the shoulder lapel straps.

Grooming needs to be at acceptable standards.  Hair and fingernails should be kept clean and trimmed at an appropriate length.  Facial hair should be shaved daily.  **If facial hair is authorized, it must be maintained neat and well-groomed**

Mirrored sunglasses are not acceptable.

Male employees are not permitted to wear earrings.  Female employees may wear “stud” style earrings as “Hoop” style earrings are not permitted.

Female employees shall keep their hair off of the face and not kept in a loose style.  Short hair does not require being pulled up as it is impossible.  If your hair can be put up, then it must be put up.  Hair can easily be pulled if it is not kept in a close to the head fashion.  Nail polish should not be worn with the uniform.
