Purpose:
To provide knowledge of the basic numerical layout one will encounter while locating addresses throughout the Parish.
Note: This is a guideline one can use to locate an address himself/herself. Municipalities such as Gonzales, Sorrento, and Donaldsonville have different methods of numerical layouts in which this guideline will not apply.
While on patrol, you are dispatched to a call for service to an address. Utilize the following guideline to help you determine which side of the road the address is located, whether you need to continue driving to locate the address, or whether you have passed the address and need to turn around.
Throughout the Parish, North/South roadways have 5-digit numerical starting with 1 (i.e. 11000, 12000, or 13000). The numbers will get higher as you travel north. The last number will be either odd or even. Ending odd numbers will be located on the West side of a North/South roadway. Ending even numbers will be located on the East side of a North/South roadway. As an example, Prairieville Wal-Mart is 17585 Airline Hwy. Airline Hwy is a North/South roadway; therefore, the first number being 1 and the last number being 5 we know Prairieville Wal-Mart is located on the North end of the Parish on the West side of Airline Hwy.
Throughout the Parish, East/West roadways have 5-digit numerical starting with 3 or 4 (i.e. 38000, 39000, 40000). The numbers will get higher as you travel east. The last number will be either odd or even. Ending odd numbers will be located on the South side of an East/West roadway. Ending even numbers will be located on the North side of an East/West roadway. As an example, Rouses Market on Hwy 42 is 40017 LA Hwy 42. LA Hwy 42 is an East/West roadway; therefore, the first number being 4 and the last number being 7 we know Rouses Market is most likely located in the center of the Parish on the South side of the roadway.
